lakefront park....

lakefront park in prior lake was my park hopping destination most of last week.  my son lucas and i enjoyed exploring one evening before sunset.   he strapped on his rollerblades (see earlier post ~ lucas) and we set off.

there are so many trails to choose from.  the above photo led to a water fountain and fishing location.  a very serene place to fish and watch frogs swimming around in the weeds and algae.

mmmm....a floating boardwalk.....i wonder what is on the other side?

birch trees...the guardians of the trail and boardwalk entrance.  i looked for some bark that may have fallen off but there was none.  i love the bark of birch trees...i have always wanted to write a story on it.  i remember going on a grade school field trip up to mille lacs lake thinking the same thing.  hmmmmm.....

winding trails and paths are a beautiful thing ~**~*~*~

~*~*~ no lake is complete without ducks ~*~*~

this is where we watched the sun setting over the tree line....while resting on the floating boardwalk.
bless my child's heart for suggesting it.
he is a wonderful assistant....no wait...park hopping partner.

while my eyes are hunting and discovering treasures....lucas' are too.
he pointed this guy out.
we vowed to return....he wanted to investigate the swimming beach next time.

moonlight oasis....

this is my garden space this summer....
it needs a little help
some love
color
and alot of
something~something...
but perfectly perfect

i have never been much of a container gardener....something about growing beauty in pots has eluded my master green thumb.
in the ground? no problem.
in a pot? a problem.

the challenge:  to container garden this summer and to make the above a moonlight oasis.
did i mention on a VERY small budget
AND
a container garden?
(obviously the container part is the challenge)

i better get started...

ohhhhhh!
this looks like a perfect place to start.
mmmmm....color and flowers and dirt and
so many OPTIONS.
i am so excited i can hardly stand it.

the nursery = a gardener's candy store

my selection to start with...
ummm...i have about 2 feet of sunlight to work with...and the rest shade.
my moonlight oasis is in shade.
i have always gardened in full sun and minimal shade.
shade gardening = new adventure
~*~
i am starting with the sun section as it is the BONES of the garden.
note the pond in the background....a built in au natural garden.
i want to make that my focal point.
and...oh i am so happy to have my frog birdbath to look at in my
moonlight oasis.  the frogs here are amazing to listen to at night.
very LOUD and clearing.
they are my favorite gift from the pond.

look at these beauties ~**~*~*~*~
rocks from lake superior's north shore...grand marais to be exact.
a little souvenier from a vacation last summer.
these are going to be my stepping stone path to the pond.

park hopping.... neil park continued...

now where was i...

neil park...
as i mentioned in an earlier post...gardening this summer has taken on a new meaning for me....PARK HOPPING has become my new venture while enjoying nature "au natural" rather than in a manucured form. see that post for more info (may 16).

i was lost for 2 hours underneath this willow tree...isn't it dreamy and magical and beautiful?
i found the most wonderful treasures....

a turtle...

ummmm....a lot of turtles ~**~*~*a community gathering*~**~
they are so innocent and simplistic....just hanging out on a log suntanning...
no rush...no hurry...only lounging...

oh! love birds....

and...their child arrives ~**~*~

hello little snail...there were TONS of snails washed up on shore....

i was afraid i was going to step on one by accident.

everywhere i turned my quiet eye...there was something new to discover, watch and enjoy...

...the ducks hidden on the tree branch....

a bird waiting for my attention....

and a magnificent tree with a story to tell....
park hopping 101...quiet your mind and quiet your eye...then ask "what do you have to show my~lovely~self?"

a clandestine moment.....

clandestine:  clan~des~tine
(1)  conducted with or marked by hidden aims or methods
(2)  undercover
(3)  hush~hush
***secret mission....secret agent***

i had a little clandestine moment or moments i should say....a couple of days ago....
it involved this...
seeds i saved from my old garden....perhaps for a "future" use...
and this....

a "top secret" location....
that could use a little "color" in it's naturalness...

ummm......thus the reason for
clandestine....ummmmm....
does this mean no wildflowers
native to the area...such as daisies or black~eyed susans?
ummmm....
my interpretation is
NO.
but...
just in case...
i cohersed the
locals...
actually there was no cohersion involved...
they
volunteered ~*~

to be on the look~out...

they "had my back"...while i embarked upon my secret mission.

i may or may not be in this location at this time next year...
either way...
perhaps
the seeds of beauty
i planted
will
be.

turtles and joy...

every morning i enjoy the sunrising over the pond out my bedroom door....
the colors are breathtaking....and beauty to the heart and eye when i wake up.  i am so fortunate to have slowed life down to appreciate the good rather than to dwell on the noise of what may appear to be "bad" that occurs in daily life.

the canadian geese are still around.  mama goose has been laying on her eggs for a good 2 weeks.

but......

watching the turtles suntan is child~like and puts a smile on my face.
hello baby turtle...you are so cute investigating with your mama....
i love this little guy...just hanging out enJOYing life in the moment.

"every day i gained more and more pleasure from this listening and looking, always seeing and hearing more clearly.  as time went on, i appreciated how glorious and beautiful existence is, living.  i saw how busy, preoccupied were most people with doing, making.  existence was already so much to enjoy, so grand and lovely, so exquisite."

the pond.....

I have been resting....relaxing....and watching.....the pond and it's inhabitants.
the canadian geese are nesting on a small little "island" in the center.
and the turtles were playing king of the hill...

and the ducks were just checking out the action.

i love my pond.
